Community Obituaries

Mr. Thomas Alonza Awbrey, Sr., age 93, of Franklin passed away January 7, 2021.

His funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM from
Franklin First Baptist Church with the Revs. Neil Awbrey and Andrew Owensby
officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin City Cemetery.

Honorary pall bearers will include his lifelong community friends: Taylor Lee, Roy
Watts, Frank Crook, and Joel Phillips.

The family will accept guests at Franklin First Baptist Church Friday evening from 5:
00 – 7:00 PM.

Mr. Awbrey was born January 24, 1927 in New Orleans, LA to the late Mary T. Awbrey
and Frances S. Maddox Awbrey.

He served his country in the US Army in World War II. During his tour of duty he was
stationed in Japan.

Mr. Thomas dedicated his life to that of a servant of the people of Heard County. He
was a member of the Franklin City Council for more than 25 years. He also enjoyed
working along-side the ladies of the Heard County Senior Center to deliver meals to
the surrounding counties for their distribution for over 20 years. Many citizens
were able to eat a hot meal due to Mr. Awbrey’s dedication and great friendships
were formed.

He was the owner and operator of Franklin Motor Company, a local wrecker service.
He took great pride in the work he did for others.

He was a long-time member of Franklin First Baptist Church and attended when he
was able.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel. In
younger years they loved to go dancing together every night they could.

Survivors include: one daughter, Vickie Warren (Lonnie) of Franklin; one son, Buck
Awbrey of Franklin; two granddaughters: Crystal Valencia (Fabian) of Newnan and
Catherine Warren of Franklin; one brother, Mason Awbrey (Dolores) of Newnan; two
very special little boys who called him Paw Paw, Cannon Smith and James Marshall;
and a number of other relatives and friends.
