Special Election


Due to the passing of District 3 Commissioner Gwen Caldwell, the Board of Elections and Registration has called a special election to be held March 21, 2023 to elect someone to fulfill the remainder of his term. Qualifying for the election is open to any registered voter from District 3. If you do not know which district you live in, you may go to www.mvp.sos.ga.gov and view your precinct card, which tells the voter which districts they vote in. You may also contact the Elections and Registration Office at 706-675-3907 during office hours. A map is available on the Elections and Registration web site at www.heardcountyga.com/voterreg. Look for the “Maps” tab. Qualifying will take place January 25 – 27 in the Elections and Registration Office. Hours are as follows: Jan 25, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM Jan 26, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM Jan 27, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM The qualifying fee is $140.00, payable by check, money order, or cash. If paying in cash, please pay the exact amount – change will not be issued. Early Voting will be available Monday – Friday, February 27, 2023 through March 17, 2023. In addition, per state law, two Saturdays (March 4 and March 11) will be open for Early Voting. The hours will be from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM daily. Absentee ballot applications are being accepted at this time. The ballots will be mailed out beginning February 27, 2023. All voters wishing to receive an absentee ballot must submit a new application for the Special Election. On Election Day itself (March 21), all three precincts containing territory in District 3 will be open from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Voters must vote at their assigned precinct unless a provisional ballot is issued after 5:00 PM. Please note – THERE IS NO VOTING AT THE COURTHOUSE ON ELECTION DAY.
